Guru Purnima is a religious Hindu festival dedicated to offering respect to all the spiritual and academic gurus. It is celebrated as a festival in India, Nepal and Bhutan by Hindus, Jains and Buddhists. This festival is traditionally observed to honor one’s chosen spiritual teachers or leaders. Guru Purnima also marks the birth anniversary of Veda Vyasa, the author as well as a character in the Hindu epic Mahabharata, as per the Panchang. It falls on a full moon day during Ashadha month, as per the Hindu calendar.
